Internet for remote work outside the city
Internet in Patagonia no longer stands in the way of a move, provided you choose a house by its address rather than by neighbourhood and think about electricity in advance. The setup: fibre optic as the base, Starlink as a backup, and mobile data as a third channel.
What is available by town
Providers and advertised speeds; rural plots only after an address-level check:
COTESMA fiber up to 1,000 Mbps, with symmetric connections and a rural service available. The best of the cities checked, but check coverage by the exact address.

Gnet: fiber up to 300 Mbps, installation in 48–72 working hours, coverage mostly in town. The technology depends on the street: your neighbor may have only radio.
SpecialistGnet — FTTH in Bariloche · 2 Sep 2026

Backup
Satellite and the main weak point:
Works officially: Residential Lite – ARS 45,000/month, Max – ARS 65,000/month, unlimited data, up to 200 and 400+ Mbps. Roam for travel – ARS 63,000–140,000.
SpecialistStarlink Argentina — rates · 2 Sep 2026
details
Starlink operates in the country officially: Residential Lite – ARS 45,000/month, Residential Max – ARS 65,000/month, data is unlimited; for travel, Roam 100 GB – ARS 63,000, Roam Unlimited – ARS 140,000 (tariff as of 2 September 2026). The stated speeds are up to 200 and 400+ Mbps.
The weak point is electricity: without a UPS or a generator, internet and water disappear with the power. A scheme: fibre, Starlink on a separate WAN, mobile coverage from a second operator.
SpecialistCooperativa 16 de Octubre — electricity and water in Esquel and Trevelin · 2 Sep 2026
details
The main point of failure for remote work outside the city is not the provider but electricity: if the ONT, router, Starlink and the pump all sit on one supply without a UPS or generator, then when the power goes out, internet and water disappear at once. A working scheme is fibre as the main channel, Starlink on a separate WAN, and a second operator's mobile connection as a third channel.
In 2025, the backbone fiber near Puente Ñirihuau was deliberately damaged twice, taking down several operators and emergency services. A Starlink backup is needed.
SpecialistPress: fiber damaged near Puente Ñirihuau · 28 Aug 2026
